3 years ago I found this poster drawn by @elizabethhcgrathart at the PCC Flea Market for one of her band Tongue’s show back in ’97 or ’98. I need to pull it out of the tube that it’s in and finally get in in a frame. A little while ago I wanted to listen to their stuff so I went to tongue666.bandcamp.com and downloaded both of their album. Listen to some of “Above your Laws” from their first album Faulty Parts and then go pay what you want for their music. I’m still not 100% sure if any of the members were from the #SGV, but their first 7” has a #PasadenaP.O. Box address on it and they used to play with a bunch of El Monte bands like Syphic, A.F.U. and P.F.R. That’s good enough for me.⁣

2 nights ago Gerald/@syphic_sgv sent me a crazy amount of pics of flyers given to him by Blue/@ogblue. Among the gig flyers was this flyer for Backyard Shenanigans, a compilation CD that #ShennanigansProductions released in late ‘97, I think. It featured tracks by SGV’s #TheJawas (years later they became  #TheJawaz), #CreepShow #StaringProblem,#Tongue (another flyer said they were from Hollywood, but their 7” has a Pasadena P.O. box address), a lot more bands from the area that weren’t on the flyer, and a bunch of bands from other parts of Southern California. @magmatized78 has been in #NakedAggression for a long time, which kind of makes them an SGV band too.

Does anyone still have this CD? If so, can I get some MP3s, please?

Shoutout to Gerald Levano/@syphic_sgv of #Syphic (Stoned Youth Politically Hated in California) for the first submission. Thanks, homie! This flyer features SGV bands, some legends, and a few other heavy hitters. Such a good lineup! The show ended up getting pushed back a day and moved to The World/Ruby on Hollywood Blvd., where the clubs Perversion, Clockwork Orange, Beat It, and Bang! used to go down. Now it’s a Buffalo Wild Wings.

I was at the show and even bought an all-access pass from one of the Syphic or #AFU guys, which I still have because I keep shit from pretty much every show I’ve ever been to. The SGV bands that I was used to seeing in backyards completely held their own and played just as good as the more well-known bands on the bill. There was some underage drinking going on that day as well, so a lot of that day is a little hazy.

Towards the end of the festival I decided to use my pass for more than just hanging out with friends in the VIP room, so I made myself at home at some steps on the side of the stage to watch #Tongue (I need to do a post on them!) and #DRI, which is how I got setlists from both bands.

#DezCadena of #BlackFlag came out near the end of Tongue’s set to join them on vocals for a couple songs. The setlist says they did “Jealous Again” by Black Flag and “I Got a Right,” but I don't remember them playing it. What I do remember is them covering part of “Flashlight” by Parliament, which was messy but they pulled it off pretty well.
